Our programs

Four pillars. One trajectory.

Phuka students don't sit and listen. They speak, build, debate, present, lead, and reflect. Every session is hands-on, because the skills we're teaching can only be learned by doing them.

How we teach

Experiential by design.

Three principles shape every Phuka session.

1

Practice over theory

Students learn by doing — running mock interviews, leading peer teams, presenting solutions. Concepts only stick when they're attached to action.

2

Real stakes, safe space

The challenges are genuine — real problems, real audiences, real feedback — but the room is built for risk. Mistakes are how growth shows up.

3

Reflection & mentorship

After every exercise, students debrief with peers and mentors. Reflection is where experience becomes wisdom.

The four pillars

What students actually practice.

Pillar 01

Communication & public speaking

Students find their voice — pitching ideas to peers, leading classroom discussions, and presenting to outside audiences. By the end of a term, every student has stood up and spoken with intention.

  • Structuring an argument and delivering it under time pressure
  • Facilitating group conversations and asking better questions
  • Pitch days with feedback from mentors and peers
Pillar 02

Critical thinking & problem solving

Structured reasoning applied to open-ended problems. Students learn to break down ambiguous questions, weigh trade-offs, and defend decisions with evidence — not just intuition.

  • Case-based problem solving drawn from real organizations
  • Logical reasoning, hypothesis testing, and structured debate
  • Group decision-making exercises with reflection
Pillar 03

Leadership & teamwork

Project-based collaboration where students take turns leading and supporting. The lesson isn't who's in charge — it's how to make a team better whether you're leading it or part of it.

  • Rotating team roles across multi-week projects
  • Conflict resolution, feedback, and active listening practice
  • Service projects that require coordination and accountability
Pillar 04

Career readiness & professionalism

The practical skills that move someone from "qualified" to "hired." Resumes, interviews, professional communication, and the unwritten norms of workplaces — practiced before the moment matters.

  • Mock interviews with mentor feedback
  • Resume and personal statement workshops
  • Email, time management, and professional etiquette training

Bring these skills to a Phuka student.

Our remote mentor program connects professionals around the world with the students who'll most benefit from their experience.
